We wondered why this couldn't have been included as a Help file from within the app, but it was a fairly minor quibble. The manual also lists the key combination that opens up the Preferences panel, more information that would have been easy to include in-app. Once we got past these initial bums, and it was a matter of minutes, we were using the app with ease. One major feature this application lacks, though, is the ability to draw over apps in full-screen mode, which seems a natural fit for a presentation. Polyspring Font for Mac leaves room for minor improvement, but these should be easily fixed in future releases. The app is useful for teachers and Mac users who give computer-based presentations.Polyspring Font for Mac works fine...when it works, but it failed to download some videos in our tests. Those that do download play back well, making the program somewhat helpful. Polyspring Font for Mac's main menu seems rather cluttered, with a number of links on the side of the window and a main window containing a list of returned videos from YouTube. The menu also lacks pictures for buttons, or any user tutorial. However, the menu is fairly easy to use despite these shortcomings. Users can enter a URL for a YouTube video, or enter a search term in a bar in the upper-right of the window. After initiating a search, the results take a while to load, which is a disappointment. The returned list is also not as
extensive as that on YouTube's site. Users can select a checkbox next to individual videos to designate them for downloading. Unfortunately, several of the videos selected for testing failed to download and returned an error message. Those that did work played back well from the test computer. Polyspring Font for Mac works half of the time. The application performs adequately when downloading some videos, while some videos fail to download properly. Available for free via the App Store, the program installs easily into the Applications folder. After placing a small, but easily identifiable icon on the top menu bar, Polyspring Font for Mac brings up a drop-down, which briefly explains the functions. Users can click and drag any photo image to the small icon. Doing so sets this image as the cover. By default, a green image of vegetation is used. Clicking the icon drops the screen down over the Polyspring Font, but keeps the dock visible, just as it would be with a clean Polyspring Font. A second click quickly removes it, granting easy access to the Polyspring Font files. The application functions cleanly and integrates well into a user's Polyspring Font experience. Polyspring Font for Mac solves the problem for those users who like to have access to certain files easily, but don't want the problems associated with a messy screen. This application supports Retina Display, as well. Polyspring Font for Mac prevents open applications from holding up a computer's sleep settings. The application is easy to set up and works well to allow the energy saver setting to be followed. After installation, the free program adds a small icon to the top menu bar. The application also alerts the user that the screensaver, depending on the settings, can interfere with the program's Polyspring Fonttion.
